Lanyards - How They Are Made

When making a lanyard there are several factors that need to be considered. The first and probably most important of course is what type of material you want your lanyard made from. Secondly, you need to determine the printing technique you want to use to put your logo or design on the material. Lastly, you will need to choose the fasteners for your lanyard.

Making your Decisions

Since there are so many different types of material you can use for your lanyards; cotton, polyester twill, nylon and cording material you will need to do some research first to decide which is best for you. Things to consider would be cost effectiveness with polyester being the least expensive. You also want to consider the length of your lanyards. Standard sizing is usually 36 inches (17.5" when put together), however you can have custom sizing done if desired. A bead or other type of hardware is usually attached so that you can adjust the length of your lanyard when you are wearing it.

When choosing the printing method know that hot stamping is the least expensive to choose from but your choices will be limited with color selection. If you choose screen printing you will have much more say in the design and layout. Screen printing offers a more professional and legible print that will last for a long time. The most expensive, but also the method that will produce the highest quality and longest wearing print is dye sublimation. When using dye sublimation you will receive a product that will be resistant to fading and cracking and should not peel off over time.

The last selection you will have to make is the type of fasteners you want on your lanyard. There are several different types of clips available to hold the badge in place. There are snap hooks, retractable reels and key ring types of fittings that you can choose from when creating your custom lanyard.
